Load-in (Aufbau)

Definition

Load-in is the designated time when artists and crew arrive at the venue to set up equipment before a performance. Known as "Aufbau" in German-speaking markets.

Context & Usage

Load-in times are specified in the contract and rider. A typical club DJ load-in is 1–2 hours before the event; a full band may need 3–4 hours. The venue should provide clear access (loading dock, elevator, parking) and a contact person to meet the artist. Late load-ins compress soundcheck time and increase stress for everyone.
