Backline

Definition

Backline refers to the equipment provided by the venue or promoter for a live performance. For DJs this typically means CDJs, a mixer, and monitors. For bands it includes amplifiers, drum kits, and keyboard stands.

Context & Usage

When a venue "provides backline," the artist does not need to bring their own heavy equipment. The specific backline should be listed in the technical rider and confirmed before the event. Disputes often arise when the backline does not match what was agreed — always confirm exact models and condition in writing.
