Guarantee (Gage / Cachet)

Definition

A guarantee is the fixed fee paid to an artist for a performance, regardless of ticket sales or door revenue. Also known as "gage" in German-speaking markets and "cachet" in French-speaking markets.

Context & Usage

The guarantee is the most common payment structure for DJ and musician bookings. It provides income certainty for the artist — they get paid the agreed amount whether 50 or 500 people attend. The guarantee is usually specified in the contract with a deposit (typically 50%) due on signing and the balance paid on or before the event.
