Rider
Definition
A rider is a document attached to a performance contract that lists the artist's technical and hospitality requirements for a gig. It typically includes equipment specifications, sound system needs, stage setup, food and drinks, and logistics like parking and load-in times.
Context & Usage
Riders are standard in the live music industry from small club gigs to major festivals. A technical rider covers equipment (CDJs, mixer, monitors, PA system), while a hospitality rider covers backstage needs (water, food, dressing room). Venues are expected to fulfill the rider or negotiate alternatives before the event.
