Soundcheck

Definition

A soundcheck is a pre-show audio test where the artist and sound engineer verify that all equipment is working correctly, set volume levels, and adjust the mix for the specific room acoustics.

Context & Usage

Soundcheck times are specified in the rider and contract — typically 2–4 hours before doors open. For DJs, a soundcheck may be brief (testing CDJ connections, monitor levels), while bands require more time to balance multiple instruments. Missing or rushed soundchecks are a common cause of poor sound quality during performances.
